Implementing UX Benchmarking

Note: This project involved confidential information, so some information has been redacted or anonymized.

Problem: After a merger, two highly technical aviation applications that had never gone through formal UX Research needed to be integrated to serve one newly combined diverse user base.

Ask: Implement usability benchmarking to understand each application’s usability baseline, assess what features overlap between the products, and create recommendations for future research and the integrated product roadmap.

Goal: Measure baseline broad usability of current applications (App 1 and App 2) to identify existing usability problems and inform App 1 and App 2 integration.

Research Questions:

What is the perceived usability of App 1 and App 2?

Which features are the hardest to use for customers?

Are there features missing that customers expect?

Results: This initial benchmarking informed the product integration plan, creating an extensive UX research roadmap tailored to specific findings, and setting up longitudinal benchmarking. I created a usability benchmark dashboard for stakeholders to reference over time, and the deck below with recommendations for next steps.
